The coolest place on the planet
Before I call it a night; I've had folks ask "where can I find ABC item?" I have learned the answer from my trip to Tokyo and that answer is Mandrake!!! If you are looking for that rare, one-of-a-kind vinal kit or that toy from the 60s. This is THE place!!!
I'll go into more detail later about my first and only trip here. Let me just say, I'm glad I didn't go back as I would have drained my savings account, maxed out my credit cards and wouldn't have room for all of what I wanted to by!!!
A copy of the Roswell Alien. They have it.
Astroboy comic from the 60s. They have it.
Ultraman, UltraSeven, etc toys from when the shows were released. They have it.
You like Kamin Rider? They have it. (In fact, Kamin Rider was all over the place in Tokyo.)
Before you ask my again, "Where can I find ABC item?" check out Mandrake. Trust me on this one.
BTW, anyone know how to fit a vinyl toy together? I have a Godzilla from 2002 and a Gamera from 1999 I'm struggling with.
Thanks,
TohoMonster
Back From Japan
I just thought I'd do a quick post and say that I went to Tokyo a couple weeks ago. I didn't take any photos. Sorry. :-(
I stayed in Shibuya. Every day I picked a different direction and walked. It was the most amazing experience of my life. Even better than that one time in Vegas that I can't talk about. :-D Literally, when I came back I couldn't talk to anyone without getting choked up about the time I had there.
There is no way I can get it all in on one post. So I'll be doing a series of posts on the trip.
Before I go into details, though, let me start by saying that I don't travel the way most folks do. Yes, I researched this trip for years. Even took Japanese classes for over a year. When I decided to go, all that planning went out the window. As soon as I arrived I KNEW what I was going to do.
Pick a direction and walk.
Yeah, I went to Tokyo and saw corners of the Emperor's Palace. Yes, I spent two days in Akihabara. But the most joy I had was getting lost walking somewhere between Shibuya and Shinjuku.
Just like the first time I went Salsa dancing, as soon as I needed my Japanese classes -- I forgot everything!!! And here I was completely lost asking directions!!! By the end of my week I started to feel more comfortable with my limited working knowledge of Japanese. But by then it was time to come home.
So, where does that leave me for this installment? I'll do more detailed installments as I go. But hold on to your hats! I had the time of my life. And I want to go back!!!
Thanks,
TohoMonster

Something Really Cool
Here's what the owner had to say:
I built him about 4 years ago while in Hawaii. He is about 4tf tall and 6ft long the inside is filled with newspaper to give him stability the legs and arms are pinned together with brass rods. The head and jaw where adjusted to have a more straight on look instead of the head tilted back.

GIANT BIO GODZILLA Pro-Painted Vinyl Model
Click here for the auction on eBay.
GIANT BIO GODZILLA - PRO PAINTED VINYL MODEL - RARE JAPAN - Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the coolest Godzilla of all?
Why, it's this one, for sure.
This is Bio Godzilla, as seen in the beast's 17th feature film from 1989, "Godzilla Vs. Biollante." Most G fans agree that this Godzilla design reigns supreme, with a sinister, angry look, and a dangerous air of animalistic power. Here, the King of all Monsters is given a second row of teeth, a slightly smaller head, and darker, hooded eyes, all of which help to give Godzilla a more savage, feral look.
To celebrate his awesome new appearance, Paradise Models of Japan produced this limited edition vinyl model of Bio Godzilla back in 1989, which is offered here, professionally assembled, fabulously painted, and ready to display. Paradise is known and respected by serious collectors for producing spectacular model kits of famous Japanese movie monsters, with this piece being one of their finest.
It's an enormous figure, measuring a whopping 32" long x 18" tall x 12" wide. It's also a fantastic sculpt, with a dynamic, threatening pose, evil grimace, and plenty of well-crafted detailing. This one is cleanly assembled with no visible seams, then lovingly finished in movie accurate colors which help to bring the beast alive on display. Godzilla's scales are layered colors of bluish green, with highlighted spinal plates, and weathered claws. All facial details are tightly rendered, then coated in clear gloss for a living look.
Truly, the overall effect on this big guy is stunning! So pledge allegiance to the King, and let Bio Godzilla reign in your collection!
Bandai 1995 Burning Godzilla Super Premium Final Form
Click here for the auction on eBay.
Description
Hi up for auction is a 1995 Bandai Burning Godzilla Super Premium Final Form. This is the largest of the large-size figures(about 2 feet tall) produced by Bandai(and arguably produced by anyone) It is in excellent 100% complete condition and never played with,it comes with a brass footplate and accompanying card that details the serial number.Bandi made 4,000 figures in this limited series.THE NUMBERS ON THE CARD AND FOOTPLATE MATCH,MAKING THIS SET RARE, Bandai screwed up production and released the majority with unmatching numbers. It has been estimated that only about one-quarter of these figures(1,000) actually have a matching footpalte and card.Comes with Dorsal fins and eyes(I put the fins on for photo)Comes with 2 boxs ,a inside box and a outside box for shipping, the inner box has tons of graphics, comes with orange cardboard support for tail.

Hollywood Godzilla 2
I’ve held off on posting my thoughts on the rumor that Sony was working on a second installment of the Hollywood Godzilla. However I think it might be worth some wild speculation on my part at this time.
Keep in mind that Monster Zero has detailed excellent reasons why this rumor is unfounded. And I agree with the reasons – the Hollywood Godzilla sucked on an epic scale.
With that said, let me add a few comments about the original post on Monster Zero which started me thinking.
According to the original rumor, Sony wanted to see how Spider-Man 3 did at the box office before committing to a second Godzilla movie. The timing here seems a bit static to me. Why wait on starting production until after Spider-Man 3? And why a 2009 release date? The obvious answer to me is that many of the creative forces behind the highly successful Spider-Man movies will be free to start work on new projects.
A quick look at IMDB shows that Sam Raimi has nothing slated for a 2009 release as director. Hmmm.
Again, I want to stress that this rumor of a second Hollywood Godzilla movie has been squashed thoroughly by Sony. But wouldn’t it rock if the creative forces behind one of Hollywood’s most successful movie franchises decided to throw their weight behind a new version of Godzilla?

Godzilla in 3D coming this summer
It took a while but I think I have enough to go on here. Looks like Godzilla 3D in IMAX format will be released in the USA in September.
I started here at Monster Zero looking for details on this movie. The juicy bits are that the final battle takes place in Los Vegas and that the movie isn't financed by Toho, but by a group of investors.
After some lame investigation on my part I went to IMDB and found Godzilla vs Deathla with a release date of September 12, 2007.
This movie is being directed by the same genius who directed Godzilla vs the Smog Monster. You know, the movie where Godzilla flies. Deathla is suppose to be a retread of Smog Monster. The effects are by the same team who brought us Final Wars. These details are from Monster Zero.

The title link takes you to the article.
New! Gamera: Little Braves 2006 Double Disc Set
Yes, I know this isn't Godzilla related. But considering that the Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles are coming to the big screen, think all the "turtle power" fun you can have watching the true mutant turtle!
Again, I haven't looked at Netflix or Amazon yet to see if they have copies.
New Godzilla DVDs
According to Godzilla on DVD Store both movies will be in stores in April. This is HUGE. Godzilla Raids Again. I haven't checked out Suncoast, Netflix, or Amazon yet. But that's at the top of my To Do list after this post!
For those who don't know. This is the first time EVER that Godzilla Raids Again will be available to own here in the USA. Those lucky few who do have a rare legal copy of it have a import. This is great news for anyone with this movie missing from their Godzilla collection.
Now we just need something done about Ghidora: The Three-Headed Monster on DVD.
